Are you an aspiring engineer looking to gain experience?

Or are you an incoming freshman looking for your niche at Immaculata?

Or do you just want to have some fun and meet some great friends?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then the IHS Cold Fusion Robotics Team is the place for you!

Here are some questions you may have....

  • When does Robotics begin to be a major time commitment? -At the beginning of January, there is a kickoff meeting at which the 2012 game is unveiled. From then on through the end of April is the Robotics season. In the build season (January to early March), there are meetings every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Night from 6-9 p.m., every Saturday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and every Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
  • Who do I go see if I'm interested in joining Cold Fusion? -Mr. Kedersha is our faculty advisor, and you can find him in his classroom (#421).
  • What if I can't make every single meeting? -Fear not! It's perfectly alright if you can't make every single meeting. Plenty of people have other commitments outside of Robotics, but be sure to make meetings when you can. If you can't make meetings, one way you can help is to learn how to help maintain and improve the team's website from home.
  • What if I'm not good at building things, or programming? -There are plenty of ways you can help. In addition to being on the build team and being on the programming team, you can be a webmaster, a fundraiser, or you can help the team out by working the candy cart after school.
  • What exactly do you do in Cold Fusion? -FIRST Robotics is an international program designed by Dean Kamen with the intention of "transforming our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders." Each year, a special game is designed that challenges the minds of the team members with the hope of friendly, cooperative competition. This year, the robot must be able to make baskets using Kinect technology and then be able to balance a seesaw with the other teams' robots. The mission of FIRST is "to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership." You can find more information on the FIRST website, http://www.usfirst.org/
  • How many people are involved in Cold Fusion? -We have 19 students (4 seniors, 5 juniors, 5 sophomores, and 5 freshmen), 15 adult mentors, and 15 Cold Fusion alumni mentors. We're a very diverse and welcoming group, and we'd be glad to have you!
